This week, Anne challenges us to a “Virtual Scavenger Hunt.” Such fun! I love rummaging around attics or old garages. In this week’s challenge, we are to find 5-to-10 photographs in our archives that match up with the categories Anne has prescribed – a virtual scavenger hunt! So here goes! Monday Monochrome – Three Flowers
It’s time for a Monday Monochrome. I’ve selected this image of three Ranunculus flowers beginning to open (Ranunculus asiaticus). The beautiful shapes formed by the petals are beginning to show. The patterns in the flowers are set off against the apparently haphazard layout of the photograph.

Westport Point Harbor
The village of Westport, Massachusetts, first settled by English colonists in 1670, was so named because it was the westernmost part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Westport Point is a historic district encompassing the early development of Westport. Situated on the Westport River, there is today a small harbor (pictured in this image, left and…

Flower of the Week – Bearded Purple Iris
For the Flower of the Week, I offer this somewhat abstract bearded purple iris (Iris germanica). I think this is an exceptional flower. Monday Monochrome – Office Building Architecture
For this week’s Monday Monochrome, I offer this image of the exterior shape of an office building. The subtle curves on the side serve to soften the building’s appearance and all curves on the side lead up to the straight line formed across the top. Mathematics, anyone? (The building is in Greenwich, CT.)

Flower of the Week 2 – Very Pink
I don’t think we could get much more pink than this. It’s a spring peony, photographed indoors with controlled lighting.

Flower of the Week – Peruvian Lilies
Flower of the Week is the Peruvian Lily (Alstroemeria aurea). Alstromeria are native to South America, but found all over the mostly temperate regions of the world. This species, Alstroemeria aurea, is native to Chile and Argentina. Alstromeria species and varieties are the most plentiful flowers in Chile. Peruvian lilies are plentiful as cultivated flowers…
