New Images

What is New Images? It’s a new series, posting every Wednesday and replacing the One Four weekly series. And what are “New Images”? Well, they’re “Images,” which means they might be photographs or they might not. “New” has two meanings. First, these posts will be all about recent work of mine. More importantly, New Images…

One Four Challenge: Autumn Scene – Variation 4
This is week 4 of this month’s One Four series. For this variation, I converted to B&W, but retained the color in the sky. The component colors of the B&W image were adjusted to retain the detail in the trees and bring out the textures further. The basis for this variation was variation 2; here…

Flower of the Week – Tall Yarrow
A previous “Flower of the Week” posted a yarrow groundcover. This is Tall Yarrow. Tall Yarrow grows to 3-4 feet.

Monday Monochrome – Sydney Opera House
From my time living in Sydney, this photo shows the sails of the famous Sydney Opera House, shot from Circular Quay. In this picture, it’s clear how the Opera House dominates the urban landscape around it, not just in terms of size or architecture, but more so (to me) by it’s striking whiteness.

Lens Artists Challenge #370 – Ancient
The Lens-Artists Challenge this week is by Sofia, who asks us to present images depicting “anything that has had an existence of many years. It can be ancient buildings or places, or unchangeable landscapes. It can also be traditions, whose origins are lost in time, or obsolete objects of everyday life.” This is a great…

One Four Challenge: Autumn Scene – Variation 3
For Variation 3, I have chosen to make the Autumn Scene a night scene. It’s a very clear night, as it frequently is in Autumn, and the stars are shining bright. And on this night, we see a full moon (a “Harvest Moon”?). The stars and the moon were added through layers, which also darkened…

Flower of the Week – Echinacea (Coneflower)
Here in the Northeastern U.S., we’ve been battered this past weekend with the winds and rain of a Nor’easter, quite early for the season. But cold weather approaches for sure. Until then, here is a bit of summer to enjoy. Echinacea, popularly known as Coneflowers, is a genus in the Daisy family. Native to eastern…

Lens Artists Challenge #369 – Dreamscapes
The challenge this week comes from Ann-Christine, who names her challenge, “Dreamy.” She offers a range of dreamy or dream-like examples. It’s a great post; I think photography is well-suited to depicting dreamscapes both real and imagined. In the feature image above, the sun shines through a hazy avenue of trees, depicting a sanctuary-like enclave…

Flower of the Week Bonus – Yarrow Groundcover
Going through my archives, I came across this – a multicolored yarrow groundcover (Achillea millefolium)- which I thought I would share as a second Flower of the Week. According to Wikipedia, “The plant is native to temperate regions of Eurasia and North America. It has been introduced as feed for livestock in New Zealand and Australia. It has some…
