New Images

New Images

What is New Images? It’s a new series, posting every Wednesday and replacing the One Four weekly series. And what are “New Images”? Well, they’re “Images,” which means they might be photographs or they might not. “New” has two meanings. First, these posts will be all about recent work of mine. More importantly, New Images will explore new approaches to fine art image-making, including new ways to edit photographs and new ways to incorporate AI in the image-making process.

The feature image, above, is a photograph of a crabapple flower. Using the Layers tool in most modern photo editing programs, multiple layers of overlays have been applied to create additional texture and to add a more abstract background. The result is a more painterly image.

Here, to the right, is a clickable version of the feature image. A note: Almost all of the images to be posted in this series will benefit from being seen in full-screen mode. Click the image to get a larger view and a full-screen option.

Four Pears
Vase and Bowl

“Four Pears” and “Vase and Bow” represent a combination of AI, traditional photo editing, and multiple photo overlays. (Click image for a larger view and full-screen option.)

Here are two more flowers. On the left, carnations. On the right, a Cymbidium orchid. (Click for larger image and full-screen option.) Each photograph was edited, then multiple texture layers were added.

Those are some introductory images. I’ll also be discussing some of the techniques as well advances in image creation. See New Images each week on Wednesday.

Write to me! I’m very eager to get your feedback and, perhaps, discuss some of the images and ideas here. Please leave comments below.

  1. I really love these! I’m not aways particularly enthused by still life images, but the editing work you’ve done makes so much more visually interesting. The four pears shot especially appealed to me in its simplicity of subject balanced by complexity of texture. I’m looking forward to seeing more and hearing about the techniques you employ.

    1. Hi, I really appreciate your comment. I’m glad you liked these images. Your comment about the Four Pears is astute – Exactly what I like about it. As we go forward, I will be discussing techniques.
