It’s a BONUS week for the One Four Challenge! May has 5 weeks, so Leanne and I are doing extra fifth variations this week. Next week starts a new series. Join us! The One Four exercises are great fun and a great way to explore and learn new editing techniques. If you are interested and would like more information, go here.
So, courtesy of Photoshop (and a little Luminar Neo), I’ve kind of gone overboard this week. That’s the new variation in the featured image above; that it has been extensively edited should be apparent.
At the outset, I knew I wanted to create a larger, more expansive landscape by adding more hills and some distant mountains. That would allow me to build on the existing hills, which I thought was the central focus of the. original image. The rest came to me as I worked on it.
After the hills and mountains, I expanded the image in all four directions, most noticeably adding a lake on the right, more sky, and more trees and bushes in the foreground. In the distance, I added a home; then I edited the land in front of the home to look more like fields being cultivated. All of these edits were done in Photoshop. Then I edited the sky, making sure to include some reflection of the clouds in the lake. A bunch of exposure and tonality edits finished the new image. The hills and a tree in the original image carried over and set the tone for the finished picture.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of the original image and the new variation. I retained the original aspect ratio (16:9). However, the expansion added in the new image changes the scale.
Here is a gallery with the original and all five variations.
Next week, we will start a new series, posting an original and the first variation on Thursday, June 5th. Variations 2, 3, and 4 will then appear on successive June Thursdays.
