One Four Challenge – Acoma NM -Week 3

One Four Challenge – Acoma NM -Week 3

This is the third week of the One Four Challenge for July. As a reminder, in the One Four Challenge, we select a photo each month and then produce four variations on successive weeks. You can get more information here. And be sure to check out Leanne’s posts and Robyn’s posts.

Variation 3 is above and to the right. This variation builds on Variation 2. I used a filter in Photoshop to develop a paint emulation. I think the resulting image is softened, with the buildings taking on – what? – maybe a weathered look; or an old-time movie appearance; or perhaps the aftermath of a sandstorm blowing through the pueblo [Hmmm… Variation 4 maybe…]; or even an oil painting. Let your imagination run wild.

Here is the side-by-side view or Variation 2 and Variation 3.

And here is a gallery of the original with all three variations thus far.

And that’s it for this week. Final variation next week.

  1. I love the painterly look in Variation 3.

  2. Definitely feels like a stylised painting Joanne. Fun!! 🙂

    1. Yep! Fun. Glad you like it.

  3. Normally I’m not a fan of this sort of thing, but I actually think it works well with this image Joanne.

    1. There are a number of programs and apps that will do this; most are rather overdone. I completely agree that using a filter like that is a trick, and rarely worth it. But I think the Photoshop filter creates a more subtle render. I would still use it or anything like it only very rarely. But I agree that it seems to work in this image. Thanks for the feedback.
