New Images #7 – Mixed Edits

The feature image above, titled “Wave,” can be seen in a couple of ways. Its smoothly undulating shape is meant to emulate a somewhat perturbed flowing wave – water, air, clouds, or similar mediums. At the same time, the combination of lighting, color, and flow patterns is meant to draw the viewer into the upper middle part of the wave, which, to a degree, looks like it’s leading up and in back. The overall feeling is supposed to be one of rest, but not without some subconscious undercurrents.

This image – titled “Country Scene In Fog” – is a combination of traditional and digital techniques. I find the image extremely relaxing.

This is “Coffee Table and Golden Trees” – An exercise with composition and lighting. The light on the wall at left draws the eyes to the rose. But then the rose itself appears to be pointing to the window. Through the window, we see the trees with golden foliage. Through the overall composition and lighting, the trees become the primary subject of the image.

And that’s it for this week. All three images are presented as good subjects to study and contemplate. Look at the way the composition works with the other elements, and the role lighting and color play in defining the image. Visit next Wednesday again for more work with New Images.
