Artists Roses
Those who are uncomfortable with – or even opposed to – AI Imaging might turn away from this post. If you’re even a little bit interested in AI – or in leading artists, painters, stick around for what I hope is an interesting experiment. The feature image is an AI-generated image in the style of the Spanish painter, Joan Miro.
AI systems undergo “training” using millions of images. However, these images aren’t directly copied into the AI system. Instead, the AI analyzes the images and “learns” about various shapes, colors, lines, and other forms present in them. When words are linked to these images—such as the name of an artist—the AI creates associations between those words and the patterns it has identified from that artist’s works. Consequently, while the AI doesn’t actually comprehend who Joan Miro is, it connects the term “Joan Miro” with a variety of visual elements it recognizes from paintings by him. The featured image above isn’t a work by Joan Miro nor does it replicate any specific painting created by him; rather, it is generated by the AI based on countless data points associated with Joan Miro’s artistic style.
While the AI doesn’t know who Joan Miro is, it has an understanding of his style from studying his paintings. In this New Images post, I have sought to explore this “understanding” of style. I’ve asked the AI to create images in Miro’s style, just as I’ve done with many other well-known artists, both contemporary and past. Enjoy.
