New Images #11 – Portraits and a Fountain

New Images #11 – Portraits and a Fountain

The featured image this week is one I’ve worked on extensively and often. I’ve had the photograph of a water fountain and wanted to do something with. But I struggled with what kind of background to use and how to blend it. After many iterations (and frustration!) I finally settled on this, and after additional editing, I’m very happy with it.

For those interested, this is the “starting” image for the above fountain. When I started, I had not thought I would be replacing as much of the original background as I eventually did. I did think, when I originally found the fountain, that it didn’t “fit” its environment. As I worked with it, I realized that the fountain belonged in an old world kind of setting.

Shifting gears, here are two images from a completely new set of portraits I’ve been working on. AI imaging provides a wealth of creative opportunities for pictures like these.

“Girl and Wildflowers”

“Girl with Red Hair”

For both images, the primary “source” is an AI generated image. For “Girl and Wildflowers,” the wildflowers and background, along with the backlight, are included in the original AI prompt. Each image was edited with traditional photo-finishing methods to adjust exposure, contrast, and tonalities. A background was added to “Girl with Red Hair.” “Girl and Wildflowers” was expanded in Photoshop, and the background was softened.

The following are the images generated by the AI, along with the corresponding prompts. These do not include any of the post-generation editing in the above images.

Midjourney: Lifestyle image, golden hour, full – length photo of young woman, short blonde hair in bright colorful dress with flowers design, wildflowers background, shot with natural light, 210 mm lens, f/ 22 aperture, Sun back – light, right fill – light

Adobe Photoshop Firefly: Warm shallow depth of field of a photograph of a kind young redhead woman, looking into the camera lit by hard key lights simulating a multi-flash setup, creating defined edges and deep shadows, sharp focus, confident expression, high fashion aesthetic, plain background, Model Firefly Image 3, Aspect Ratio 3:4, Content Type Photograph

I hope you enjoyed these images. Watch for New Images posted on Wednesday next week. And a happy New Year to all!

  1. These are all really beautiful Joanne 🙂 I’d be interested sometimes to see the originals you start from when creating these images, e.g. of the water fountain you took as the starting point for that first one.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Sarah. At your suggestion, I have re-edited the post to include the original fountain photograph. I really appreciate your interest in these new images.

      1. And also the preliminary generated images for the two portraits.

        1. Yes, it was definitely very interesting to see those originals and the AI prompts too. It gives me a greater appreciation of the work you put into your creations 😀

          1. I hve no idea why that comment appeared as anonymous, it was clearly from me!
