Oh, this a real challenge for me. For a number of reasons, I no longer travel, no longer drive, and rarely go on outings. Recently, the great community here and your wonderful journeys and photographs have inspired me. I’m determined to get out this spring and take pictures. Alas, our northeast weather simply isn’t cooperating. So I’ll have to go into the library …
An outing I would take, frequently, would be to Bruce Park in Greenwich, oftentimes with Sally, our dog. Here is a selection of images from a spring outing there.
“I had always planned to make a large painting of the early spring, when the first leaves are at the bottom of the trees, and they seem to float in space in a wonderful way. But the arrival of spring can’t be done in one picture.”
– David Hockney
I’ve always liked the gazebo in Bruce Park. This is a prime site for spring and summer weddings.
The image below shows off my love of trees and tree bark.
The daffodils seem to spring forth right from the rocks.
The above images work well in black and white. Other images cry out for color. In this one, the tiny red tree buds on the verge of opening qualify this picture as a “find.” The lamp adds perspective.
The bright spring sunlight adds additional character to these entwined tree limbs.
Is there a picture that celebrates spring more than seeing the trees blooming and the forsythia in their yellow splendor alongside the lake. Scenes like this make Bruce Park special for me.
So that’s my spring outing. Wishing a happy spring to all.
“Spring drew on…and a greenness grew over those brown beds, which, freshening daily, suggested the thought that hope traversed them at night and left each morning brighter traces of her steps.”
–Charlotte Brontë
