Keyes View: A Hidden Gem in Joshua Tree

Keyes View is the highest point in Joshua Tree National Park (California). From Keyes View, you can see into (center right) the Coachella Valley. In the distance (center left), you can just make out the Salton Sea. Beyond that is Mexico.

Keyes View was the site of a homestead and ranch started in 1910 by a Russian immigrant, William Keyes. Keyes raised a family on the ranch, which also became the site of a general store and a mill. The ranch became an important site for prospectors and miners and local settlers.

I have edited the image extensively. I cleaned up a lot of haze which had built up on a warm summer afternoon. I added the sky. I adjusted sharpness and texture, along with exposure, in order to bring out the Salton Sea in the distance, and to improve the textures on the rocks.
