It’s time for a new 4-week cycle in the One Four Challenge. In this challenge, we select an original image, then explore – on successive weeks – four ways of editing the original to create new interpretations.

Here is the original image, a photograph of the picturesque California countryside in Los Banos. Los Banos is a city in the San Joaquin Valley of California, just east of the Diablo Range. It sits at the crucial intersection of Interstate 5 and State Route 152, which makes it a convenient place that I traveled through on not-infrequent trips between the Southland and the Bay Area. During these journeys, I was always captivated by the rolling hills, and I sometimes made stops to take photographs to capture its natural beauty.
To create Variation 1, I observed that the original image seemed flat and dull. It definitely needed “perking up.”
I replaced the sky. I edited exposure, contrast, etc., in order to enhance the foliage and the green in the hills. As I have done in the past, here is a slider to compare the original and this variation.
Visit again next week to see another variation.
One Four Challenge
In the One Four Challenge, we select an original image and then explore different edits or interpretations on subsequent weeks. The One Four Challenge was started by Robyn G several years ago and is now revitalized by Leanne Cole and me. (We may see Robyn here from time to time.) We would love for others to join us in exploring our images. This challenge is beneficial as it encourages learning new techniques and pushing creative boundaries. And it’s fun! Remember to include the tag One Four so your work appears in the WordPress Reader for everyone to admire. I share my posts on Wednesdays in the Western Hemisphere, while Leanne shares hers on Thursdays in Australia and the Eastern Hemisphere. Join us!
