One Four Challenge Week 1 – Hammond Gardens

One Four Challenge Week 1 – Hammond Gardens

It’s a new month, and so we begin a new One Four series. The original is the featured image above. This was shot in the Hammond Japanese Gardens in North Salem, NY. This photograph is one of my favorite spots in the Gardens, projecting serenity and calm.

Before going further, I would like to review the One Four Challenge. Each month, we select an original image and do four variations on successive weeks. The One Four Challenge was started some years ago by Robyn. Recently, the exercise has been rejuvenated by Leanne and I. We would love to have more join us – Creating each series is fun and a great way to explore and learn new editing techniques. You can find more information here.

Here is Variation 1.

For this variation, I tried to clean up the original image, increasing sharpness and adding clarity. I did not think the colors in the original were very realistic, so I adjusted the colors. I imagine subsequent variations will show more extensive editing.

Here is the side-by-side comparison.

I will have three more variations on successive Wednesdays (Thursdays in Australia), June 11, 18, and 25.

  3. Hi Joanne.. another fun month!
A very verdant original image.. I like the reduced saturation in your edit.. it does bring the tree trunks more into focus.
It looks like it may have been quite a bright day for your visit.
    What a lovely place 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment, Robyn! I think the image looks more realistic with the reduced saturation. It is a lovely place, a favorite of mine.
