One Four Challenge – Acoma, NM – Week 2

One Four Challenge – Acoma, NM – Week 2

This is the second week of this month’s One Four Challenge. Recall that in the One Four Challenge, we select a photo each month and then produce four variations on successive months. You can get more information here. And be sure to check out Leanne’s posts and Robyn’s posts.

The featured image above is Variation 2 of the Acoma pueblo. The conversion to monochrome was made via a cinematic preset. I then modified multiple tonalities, changing how different colors were mapped to the black-and-white. I added a few other adjustments to modify textures. I used Luminar Neo for all edits; I don’t think there was any AI involved. Overall, the I think the result has a distinctive cinematic appearance.

Here is the side-by-side comparison of Variation 1 and Variation 2.

And here is the gallery with both variations and the original.

  1. Beautiful set and edits, Joanne. Your photo captured the mystic mood of the Acoma Pueblo so well.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Egidio. I am so glad that you liked it. “Mystic mood” is a good description of what I was after.

  2. I see we had similar ideas this week, meaning the black and white. I like it in black and white because you don’t really notice the distractions, however, I do miss the colour of the buildings. Great choices this week Joanne.

    1. I like the black and white treatment sometimes because it helps to bring out textures and tones that color often overwhelms.

  3. […] Challenge is, you can find out by going to this link for more information. Please take a look at Joanne’s post as […]

  4. Wow Joanne, the monochrome really brings out the textures and details and definitely does give a cinematic feel for sure.

    1. Hi Robyn! Sorry I’m late. Thanks for your comment.
