We can’t get much more exotic than the Bird of Paradise – Strelitzia reginae – Native to South Africa. The variety is named “reginae” and commemorates the British queen, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Charlotte was Queen as the wife of King George III, from 1761 until her death in 1818. George III was King of England during the American Revolution. Charlotte was an amateur botanist.
One more image for this week, the Calla Lily, Zantedeschia aethiopica, which is also native to southern Africa.
