This new image – of a lakeside – is possibly the most extreme among the Visions of Nature series. This series explores images modified to reflect Schklovsky’s concept of defamiliarization (Russian: Ostranenie) which posits that the purpose of art is to render the familiar as unfamiliar in order to inspire new ways of seeing, fresh perspectives on the colors, shapes, and patterns of nature. The image from the camera has been heavily edited, first in Photoshop and then in Capture One. The foreground shows the weeds and grasses at the edge of the lake. The green-tinted area across the image just below midline shows water with the reflections of clouds. Above midline shows varied vegetation floating on the water.
