One Four Challenge Week 5 – Los Banos

It’s a BONUS week for the One Four Challenge! May has 5 weeks, so Leanne and I are doing extra fifth variations this week. Next week starts a new series. Join us! The One Four exercises are great fun and a great way to explore and learn new editing techniques. If you are interested and…

New AI – Home in the Mountains

I am continuing my experiments and explorations with AI-imaging. I’ve been exploring contemporary homes in the environment. This image was created with generative AI, then edited in Luminar Neo. As I have suggested before, AI, in combination with other more traditional editing approaches(*), is a useful tool for visualizing ideas and creating images that may…

Monday Monochrome – Newport Garden Gate

For this week’s Monday Monochrome, I’ve selected an image from a shoot in Newport, Rhode Island. This garden gate was photographed near Spring St and the Trinity Church. The style is found in many old houses and gardens in this part of Newport.

Lens Artists Challenge #350 – Zooming

Anne’s challenge to us this week is Zooming. At first, I had no idea how to proceed. While Anne has in mind zooming with a zoom lens, I do not own a zoom lens. Years ago, I did. But I found working with prime lenses gave me better image quality and forced me to think…

One Four Challenge Week 4 – Los Banos

It’s back to color this week. Starting with the original, I replaced the sky again. Then, working with numerous adjustments to exposure, light, and tonality, I created a more pastel look. I added just a bit of fog at the top of the picture. Then more adjustments in exposure and focus to add a soft…

White Irises

The irises are blooming in the northeast, with various colors available, but these white irises at Descanso Gardens in Pasadena particularly attracted me. Irises, belonging to the genus iris, are named after Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow, who is often depicted as a messenger between the gods and humanity. Both the plant and…

Monday Monochrome – Trees

/ The monochrome image for this Monday is of some trees. I found the mass of trees and thick foliage interesting. But the patterns and textures in the image come out in monochrome.

One Four Challenge Week 3 – Los Banos

For this week’s variation, I opted to do a monochrome edit. Getting a good monochrome version of this image was a challenge because there was little tonal variation in the image. Here is a comparison of this week’s image and the original. And here is a gallery of all four images thus far. Next week,…

Monday Monochrome – Three Roses

This image violates several rules of composition, but I like it. I think it has a certain classical look. The black-and-white and the close framing emphasizes the contours and the many layers of petals in each flower.
